Why you can't afford to 'Take two months off'

We’ve all been ‘off’ for over two months now, routines and habits may have changed and it can be easy to lose a bit of motivation to keep active and looking after ourselves as well as we should.

One thing to keep in mind is that exercise is vital for functional longevity, this means being able to keep your body functioning in good condition, being able to move without pain and do everything you need to do each day; no matter how you do it – you can’t afford to take two months off…

Once we hit our 40s, exercise becomes even more important to help maintain physical and mental health – and to maintain social bonds.
The NHS recommends that adults should get 150 minutes of moderately intense cardio exercise per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity. Also, we should all participate in resistance training at least twice a week to maintain strength, balance, bone health and more.

To keep the habit of exercise long term, its important to do the kinds of exercise you enjoy, whether that’s walking, cycling, dancing or running – whatever keeps you motivated!

As well as the physical benefits, exercise has huge benefits for mental health and wellbeing; reducing brain fog, keeping our cognitive function and improving our mood and state of mind and overall wellness. Exercise also helps to increase our resilience during times of stress – there really is no downside to exercise.

It sounds simple, but the more active you are, the more active you’ll be able to be.

As everywhere has been closed, online training has been a surprise hit with many people of all ages – this has really put paid to the myth that once we start to get a little bit older we can’t keep up with technology. On a personal note it’s been really inspiring seeing so many of you getting on with Online classes and logging in for Live Zoom classes!

For all of you who have been keeping yourselves active and exercising regularly – a massive well done! For anyone who feels that they would like to be more active than they have been, it’s never too late to start. If you need any help or advice, you can get in touch and we can see how we can help.

The important thing, is that this is not the time to try and just wait things out – staying active right now is more important than ever.
